About us

microphoton x is a fast-growing biophotonic company with a cutting-edge optical technology to study biological molecules, cells, and tissue. We have made it our joint mission to revolutionize bioanalysis for faster detection and more efficient therapy of diseases. Starting treatment earlier can even save patients’ lives. The microphoton x team is united by a passion to turn our breakthrough technology into real innovation. 

Our team consists of experienced senior experts in the field of biological applications as well as photonics, engineering and data science. 

Our modern offices and laboratories are situated in Tutzing only a stone's throw away from Lake Starnberg and with a direct S-Bahn connection to Munich city centre.

Dr. Christoph Viebig

Interim Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer

Christoph serves as the interim CEO and CFO of microphoton x, where he is heading Strategic Planning, Business Development, Venture Financing and Financial Accounting. As an innovative and dynamic leader, Christoph brings a wealth of entrepreneurial experience and business expertise. He studied Management, Philosophy & Economics as well as Entrepreneurship at Frankfurt School of Finance & Management, La Trobe University, Melbourne, University of Southern California, Los Angeles, and Copenhagen Business School, from which he also holds a PhD in Entrepreneurship. Christoph worked in Innovation Management, Strategy and Business Development for several startups and established corporations, before becoming Head of Strategy at CKM Group. Being appointed interim CEO and CFO in Q4 2023, he assumes a pivotal role in positioning microphoton x at the forefront of its industry and unlocking new opportunities for expansion into regulated markets in the years to come.

Dr. Hesham Yosef

Chief Scientific Officer

Hesham leads the laboratories and the application teams and oversees scientific operations at microphoton x. He designs and develops the biomedical applications and the methodological aspects of the Raman microscopic systems. He is a chemist with a Ph.D. in Biophysics (Ruhr-university Bochum-Germany). Since 2012, Hesham has developed many Raman biomedical applications during his doctoral and post-doctoral research, with activities spanning in diagnostics, cytopathology, and in-vitro therapy evaluation. He has published 12 peer-reviewed scientific publications and 2 book chapters in these field. After his post-doc, Hesham has expanded his experience further by moved to biotech industry, through working at CellTool as a head of the Lab and applications (2019-2021).

Dr. Tilo Zollitsch

Chief Technology Officer

Tilo leads the technological development and production of microphoton x’s novel micro-Raman single beam trapping spectrometer. He draws upon more than 10 years’ experience in laser spectroscopy, instrument development, and analytics. After graduating from the Technical University of Munich with an MSc in Chemistry, he completed his doctorate at the University of Oxford, with a focus on laser spectroscopy and data analysis. Prior to his position at microphoton x, he was the head of production and development at CellTool innovating cellular diagnostics based on Raman spectroscopy and optical microscopy.

Dr. Hanns-Georg Klein

Chairman of the Advisory Board

Following medical school, Dr. Klein started postdoctoral fellowships at the Dept. of Physiology (Munich) and the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (Bethesda, MD) working on the genetics of lipid disorders. He then joined the Department of Clinical Chemistry (Munich) and founded Medigenomix, now part of Eurofins. Dr. Klein also founded the Centre of Human Genetics and Laboratory Diagnostics (Martinsried) and IMGM Laboratories. He is author of numerous publications and serves as a field editor for the Journal of Laboratory Medicine.

Dr. Peter Kaspar

Member of the Advisory Board

Dr. Peter Kaspar has more than 40 years of experience in the diagnostics and life science industry. As a former member of bioMérieux Executive Committee, as well as in leadership positions with Roche Diagnostics, he drove multiple innovations in infectious diseases and other diagnostic fields. At FIND Diagnostics (a Geneva-based non-profit organization) he facilitated public-private partnerships for innovative diagnostics related to diseases of poverty. He serves as a board member or as advisor for several diagnostics and biotech companies in Europe and the US. Dr. Kaspar holds a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and studied Biochemistry and Medicine at the universities of Muenster, Berlin and Lille.

Prof. Michael Rossbach

Member of the Advisory Board

Michael Rossbach is a seasoned life and health sciences professional and the founder of Ikxinta – Advisers in Health and Life Sciences. Michael holds academic appointments at the National University of Singapore, at the Technical University of Munich, at INSEAD and is an elected member of the Scientific Council of DESY (Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron). Michael spent more than 10 years at the Genome Institute of Singapore, where he worked as a director for strategic partnerships. He then headed the pharma partnering of VELA Diagnostics and built the Technology Scouting Team of Eppendorf.
